Monadnock Brain Injury Steering Committee Awarded Highest Honor
 
At the 21st Annual Brain Injury and Stroke Conference, the Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire presented the Ellen Hayes Award to the Monadnock Brain Injury Steering Committee. The Committee is made up of family members and survivors of brain injury Cameron Tease, Jeannine Leclerc, Sue McConchie, Don Severance, Pete Wilson and Cindy Carney. This is the first time in its 19 year history that this award has been given to a group.
 
The Monadnock Steering Committee works on a grassroots level to increase awareness of brain injury. They have held legislative coffees, Educator's Forums and other public events, as well as revitalizing the Monadnock area brain injury support group. Through hard work, this group has helped improve public awareness of brain injury and provided support for people living with the effects of these types of injuries.
 
The Ellen Hayes Award is the top award given by the Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire. It is given in recognition of outstanding volunteer work on behalf of people with brain injury in New Hampshire and their families. The Award is named in honor of Ellen Hayes, a Wakefield, NH mother whose son sustained a traumatic brain injury in the early 1980's. Ellen became deeply involved with the nascent Brain Injury Association and became a role model who gave generously of her time and talent.
 
The Brain Injury Association's mission is to create a better future through brain injury prevention education and advocacy. Our goal is to prevent those injuries that can be and lessen the severity of those brain injuries that may be unavoidable.
