Moving to the General Nursing Unit

Once your child is stable and moved from the ICU to a room on the general nursing unit or "floor," you will meet many more people. While some doctors will continue to be involved in your child's care, others will not. Nurses will change. You may meet new therapists and specialists. There will be other changes as well in how the unit or "the floor" is run. Your questions, hopes, and worries will also change with this next stage of care. It still comes down to three basic areas of knowing:

  1. Who is caring for your child
  2. What each person does
  3. How to reach them
